Crispy Fried Tawilis. Tawilis is supposed to be found only in Taal Lake. We are lucky because in Metro Manila, because of our proximity to Taal Lake the fish are readily available in most big supermarkets and wet markets, specifically in the Cities located South of Metro Manila.

Fried Tawilis

There is no need to travel to Tagaytay for a Crispy Fried Tawilis fix. That is, if you are one of the lucky person that live in the vicinity of supermarkets or wet markets where fresh tawilis are available.

Here is the recipe of how to cook Crispy Fried Tawilis, enjoy.


1 kilo big size tawilis 
1/4 cup kalamansi juice
1 cup corn starch
salt and pepper
cooking oil

Cooking procedure:

Remove gills and innards of each tawilis. Wash fish thoroughly drain. Marinate fish for 10 to 15 minutes with kalamansi juice, season with salt and pepper. Keep chilled in refrigerator. When ready to fry mix in the cornstarch and toss until all the fish are uniformly coated. In a deep fryer deep fry in batches the fish, making an effort not to keep the fish from sticking to each other for 3 to 5 minutes or until crisp. In a deep frying pan heat oil until it start to smoke, drop and arrange each tawilis in the frying pan and deep fry for 2 to 3 minutes each side or until golden brown. Serve crisp hot with a dipping sauce of vinegar, garlic, onion, salt and sili.
